Washington School Recognition Program

The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) partners with the State Board of Education (SBE) and Educational Opportunity Gap Oversight and Accountability Committee (EOGOAC) to identify and recognize schools for the Washington School Recognition Program.

Schools that are honored have closed gaps, experienced growth in at least one student group, or demonstrated high performance in attendance, assessments, graduation rates and more. Complete details about the program criteria are available on the Board of Education website.

AWSP/AWSL Washington Schools on the Rise Award

Congratulations to the administrators, staff and students of Skyview High School for being honored with the inaugural Schools on the Rise Award for the 2023-24 school year!

The Association of Washington School Principals and the Association of Washington School Leaders (AWSL), introduced a new award this year called “Washington Schools on the Rise.” The award celebrates schools where students and adults collaborate to amplify student voices in a way that fosters an inclusive and equitable environment.

The recognition criteria includes:

  • Established systems demonstrating students and adults collaborating and leading school culture together
  • Tangible examples of co-design, collaboration, joint leadership
  • Examples of authentic student engagement and elevated student voice
  • Examples of schools engaging multiple student voices and perspectives
  • Quantitative and/or qualitative data to illustrate the outcomes of student-adult joint leadership
