Skyview High School’s Erin Ryan raised more than $210,000 last school year to fund research on a cure for childhood cancer. She was inspired by Trey Foote, a former Skyview student who died in 2006 from a rare form of bone cancer.
In early 2020, Ryan’s efforts were recognized with a President’s Volunteer Service Award. The award recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country.
In addition to fundraising for cancer research, the Skyview junior is a member of the National Honor Society and part of the leadership program. She mentors freshmen to help them successfully transition into high school. Ryan also has raised money for St. Vincent de Paul. After high school, she plans to attend college and become a social worker.
“Erin is destined for success. We are lucky to have her at Skyview and are very proud to call her one of our own,” said Principal Andy Meyer.
