After placing fourth the previous year, recent Skyview High School graduate Justin Lindsay clinched first place in extemporaneous speaking at the 2019 National SkillsUSA competition in June in Kentucky. Lindsay also won the regional and state competitions.

At National SkillsUSA, he vied against 40 other students from across the country and U.S. territories. Contestants had just five minutes to prepare a solo three- to five-minute speech on the topic of leadership on the job. They were judged on voice, mechanics, platform deportment, organization and effectiveness.

Teacher Nancy Wistrand was Lindsay’s adviser in 2018 and 2019.
