Skyview High School equestrian team

The Skyview team, third and fourth photos above, finished its final district meet with Kacee Cook taking home two bronze medals in individual gaming events; Natasha Flanery winning two gold and two bronze medals for individual gaming events; and the team clinching a gold and two silver medals for Canadian flags, two-man birangle and the in hand obstacle relay.

All riders qualified for the state competition in May 2017. At the state competition, the team landed in the top 10 in the team and individual gaming events.

The in hand obstacle relay senior team of Natalie Akerill, Cook, Flanery and Andrew Hatch also competed in the multi-state regional competition in Redmond, Oregon, where they finished in the top 10. Flanery nabbed a spot in the top 10 at regionals for her individual events of steer daubing and individual flags.

Columbia River High School equestrian team

River’s team, first and second photos above, had a strong showing at the district meet. Sara Beeks won gold, silver and bronze medals in individual gaming events; Tessa Graham took home a silver medal for jumping; Caitlyn Patel earned gold, silver and bronze medals for individual performance events; and the team received silver medals for drill and two-man birangle. They also won the trophy for small team champions in District 4.

All of River’s riders qualified for the state competition, where they finished in the top 10 in the team drill event and in individual gaming events.

Patel also qualified for the multi-state regional competition in Redmond, Oregon. She took third place in jumping.

JoLynn Turner coaches River’s team, and Piliado is the adviser.

How to join

Both equestrian teams are looking for new riders for the 2017-18 school year. They are open to all high school students in the district, regardless of the school they currently attend. Interested students should contact a team member or email adviser Trish Piliado to learn more. Practices are projected to begin in September.
