Introduction Graphic Design Advanced Graphic Design

Graphic Design Overview

Graphic design touches many areas of our lives. Studying and working with graphic design trains students to be critical thinkers. Layouts that are clear, concise, and attractive don’t usually happen by chance. Thought has been put into them and the designs have to be looked at carefully. Students will critique their own and each others work. These analytical skills reach across curriculum guidelines and are important as students interact with the world around them.

Graphic Design Unit Aim:

This exciting area of design is growing quickly and is constantly changing. The changing nature of this field makes the classroom an example of life-long learning as the teacher learns from the student and the student learns from the teacher. The approach of this class is to give students the advanced level of graphic design and then let them explore and be creative with their design projects and imaginations.

Students will take skills they have learned in Introduction to Graphic Design and produce advanced level advertising products like CD covers, Movie Posters, Video Box artwork and much more.

Later they will learn web graphics and basic animation in a program called Image Ready. Students will learn the differences between print graphics and web graphics and how they are optimized and saved for their different purposes.

This class will give students the experience and generate the excitement needed to stimulate self-motivated student learning

The objectives for this class are:

to introduce students to the excitement and reality of web design in the world,
to give students the knowledge needed to recognize quality graphics,
to give students the experience needed to create quality advertising products, and
to give students the knowledge to be able to adequately explore and use any computer software to aid in developing print and web graphics

Each unit in this class has three main parts:

To Hear:

This part of the lesson gives the students a chance to hear about concepts and ideas related to Web design and/or a particular software program. This will be done in both large and small group instruction as well as one on one. The instruction may be done by the teacher or by another student.

To See :

Each lesson is posted on the Internet for students to access and work at their own speed. They will be given examples of finished projects that demonstrate quality work.

To Try:

A large portion of the class will be students experimenting with HTML and computer software and working on web page projects. Each unit will have relevant projects for the students to complete.
