Blazers Help With Tsunami Relief Efforts
The
Trail Blazers joined efforts with Mercy Corps to help survivors of the
Indian Ocean tsunamis at the last home game. Fans are encouraged to

Holiday Season of Giving
The Trail Blazers are busy in the community. From holiday food deliveries
and toy drives, to hospital visits and delivering Christmas trees, the Trail
Blazers are out in full-force this season to help the community.

Harvest Dinner

The Blazers team, coaches, broadcasters, alumni, Wheel Blazers, BlazerDancers,
staff, sponsors, the Blazers Booster Club, vendors and families contribute
both time and money to the event.
Thousands of Portlands most in need citizens recieved a helping hand from
the Portland Trail Blazers, Monday November 15. It was the Blazers ninth
successful Community Builders Harvest Dinner. The team began serving meals
at 2:00pm and went well into the evening, providing a holiday style meal
and free haircuts by Supercuts. It was executed entirely by the volunteer
efforts and traditionally Portlands largest free dinner of its kind. The
Harvest Dinner effort brings the Blazers together serving a free Thanksgiving
style dinner as well as aiding in the issue of increasing amount of individuals
and families experiencing homelessness and unemployement. The dinner included
turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes and desserts. (back

Celebrates Atlanta Thanksgiving Day Program
November 17, 2004
Atlanta, Georgia…Future Foundation, founded by Portland Trailblazer
Forward, Shareef Abdur-Rahim celebrated the spirit of giving with its
Fifth Annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Dinner Program.
On Thanksgiving morning Abdur-Rahim, family members, Future Foundation
staff and volunteers spend their time delivering fully-cooked meals to
people in need. They delievered approximately 300+ complete dinner turkey
dinners feeding more than 2,500 individuals throughout metropolitan Atlanta.
Last year, 275 complete turkey dinners were delivered to area families
feeding over 2,000 individuals.
Abdur-Rahim’s philosophy is that it is important for families to
take time out of their busy and stressful schedules to spend time together.
The value of delivering meals to individual homes ensures that families
are able to celebrate Thanksgiving Day in privacy with dignity. (back

Stoudamire
Lends Assist to Portland Families
November 18, 2004
Damon Stoudamire, the 2004 NBA Community Assist Award winner delivered
holiday meals, providing thanksgiving baskets with all the holiday trimmings
to 150 families from diverse ethnic backgrounds of the North Portland
Nurse Practitioners Clinic. Stoudamire has a long history of civic involvement
in the Portland community. Damon Stoudamire said "it makes me feel
good to know these people will have a nice holiday meal. I want to give
back as much as I can to my community..." Stoudamire is the very
first ever Portland Trail Blazzer player to recieve the coveted NBA Community
Assist Award.

Shareef
Abdur-Rahim leads "Coats for Kids" Campaign
December 1, 2004
In charge of collecting winter coats at Lloyd Center Mall for local kids
and their families was Trail Blazers Forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim. The
donated coats were collected and distributed by the Salvation Army in
their annual "Coats for Kids" campaign. The trail blazer signed
autographs and gave a free ticket to an upcoming game for every person
that donated a coat. Although the coat drive was offically held on December
1st, fans also donated coats at the November 30 Trail Blazers vs Sonics
game at the Rose Garden. (back to dates)
Holiday
at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital
December 6, 2004
The Portland Trail Blazers team members participated in a Holiday “Reading
Time Out” at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Kids at the
Doernbecher hospital, either hospitalized or recieving outpatient care
during the Holiday season, were visited by Trail Blazer team members,
Blaze the Trail Cat, and Santa and read to. Among the team members who
read to kids was Joel Pryzbilla, Richie Frahm, and Zach Randolph. It was
a great experience for both the children and the basketball players. Zach
Randolph said, "It's always hard to see children suffering, but it
makes me feel good to know that we can make them smile." (back

Telfair Hosts Christmas Ornament Drive
December 6, 2004
Appearing at the Beaverton G.I. Joe's store on Cedar Hill was Tral Blazers
Rookie Sebastian Telfair to promote an ornament drive. The donated ornaments
were collected and distributed at the annual Trail Blazers Holiday Express
on December 7th along with 1000 donated Christmas trees. Telfair also
signed autographs and gave a free ticket to an upcoming Trail Blazers
game for every person that donated an ornament. Telfair is one of the
newest members of the Trail Blazers Team, so fans who came and donated
ornaments had a great time meeting him. Telfair said, "This is my
first year in Portland, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The team does
so much in the community, especially around the holidays and I was glad
I could help." (back

Blazers Adopt Head Start Classrooms
December 6, 2004
The Trail Blazers players, coaches, broadcasters and staff adopted several
Albina Head Start classrooms this holiday season. Following practice,
the Trail Blazers hosted a holiday party at a Head Start classroom in
Northeast Portland. The class started the holiday party with a number
song and a welcome tune. Damon Stoudamire distributed gifts to each child.
the class went into chaos unwrapping their gifts, once everyone was presented
one. No child was left without a smile on their face. Each year, the Trail
Blazers and staff donate holiday gifts to Albina Head Start classrooms
during the holidays, with each student recieving two gifts and an outfit
of clothing. (back to

Trail
Blazers Host Holiday Express 2004
December 7, 2004
Throughout the month of December, the Trail Blazers team, coaches, staff,
broadcasters, and other partners dedicated their efforts to brightening
the Holiday season for children and their families in the community. The
day long holiday event included the distribution of trees in partnership
with organizations that service children and families identified as critically
low-income and the distribution of tree ornaments to compliment the tree
donations. The event also hosted a breakfast at the Rose Quarter Christmas
Tree lot for 800 Head Start students, Veterans and seniors and collecting
food donations to benefit local underserved families. The first 100 people
who donated 10 pounds of food or more received a free Christmas tree.
The day was highlighted with performances from Portland Public School
choirs in the morning and the Salvation Army Brass Band in the early evening. (back

The
Great Toy Drive
As its the season of giving, the Trail Blazers, Les Schwab and KGW asked
fans to bring new, unwrapped toys to the next home game, Sunday December
12th they hosted the Utah Jazz. They said that all the toys donated would
go to those less fortunate families and fans were thanked in advance for
their genorosity. (back

Blazers Help With Tsunami Relief Efforts

On December 30, 2004, the Portland Trail Blazers announced they would
be joining the efforts with Mercy Corps which is helping the survivors
of the tsunami in the Indian Ocean. On January 1 and January 7 games,
fans were encouraged to make cash donations. Donations up to $25,000 will
be matched up by the portland trail blazers. Fans are told they can also
donate to the cause online by visiting www.mercycorps.org.
Donations will go to assist the emergency response to the more than 1.5
million people displaced and the tens of thousands more who were affected
by this tragic disaster. Mercy Corps' staff are currently distributing
emergency relief items in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and India.
