Position Paper or Issue Summary Directions for WASMUN

Writing an issue summary, aka position paper, on issues related to your WASMUN topic has the same expectations of writing a speech on a MUN resolution. The difference is that you have general topics from which to research what the issues are, instead of being given specific resolutions from which to write.

The Basics for your WASMUN Reports:

1. Summarize issue

2. Give France's position

3. Substantiate why France would have that position

4. State what you think France would support being done in this area

Write your report as you would a speech. Summarize your article and give the supporting facts. Make sure you write from the point of view of France. If you don't know France's point of view, check in with your other WASMUN members for their opinion.

What you know about France already:

1. France has been working to stabilize and increase its economic stability. Their economic standing is absolutely crucial to their power position in the world and their national pride.

2. France is working on cooperative economic ties with China.

3. France has had active Communist and Socialist parties for years.

4. France used to be a major imperialistic force, occupying many African, Middle eastern and Asian countries. In most areas they left with an increased knowledge and mutual respect for the cultures they presided over. Now they actively support individual national sovereignty and they possibly see commerce as the new way to gain imperialistic ground.
