MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE

APRIL 5 AND 6, 2002

Welcome Delegates and Advisors to the 2nd annual Washington State Model United Nations Conference on April 5 and 6, hosted by the University of Washington and organized by the World Affairs Council.  This year's conference has grown in leaps and bounds; the number of delegates attending the second annual conference has doubled and this year we proudly welcome delegates from Idaho, Texas and California.  Parents, community members and interested friends and students are welcome to stop by and observe during
any of the Committee Sessions and Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

WASMUN 2003 CONFERENCE SCHEDULE AND INFORMATION

Thursday, April 4 Leave SHS Flagpole at 6:00, dinner on the road

Friday, April 5

9:00 am-10:00 amRegistration.  Husky Union Building (HUB) Auditorium

Registration will be done by school. 

Please designate ONE advisor or lead delegate to register your school at the conference. This person will register for your entire school, in the Foyer of the HUB Auditorium.  Each delegate from your school will receive conference packets, complete with: WASMUN program, notebook, paper, pen, country placard and a name badge.

10:00 am-11:30 amDelegate Cram Session.  HUB room 108

An opportunity for delegates to receive last minute tips and instructions from the WASMUN Secretariat.

10:30-11:00 am.  Page Instructional Sessions.  HUB room 108

All WASMUN Pages meet with Page advisor and instructor to receive detailed instructions on page duties and rules.

11:30.  Seating for the Opening Ceremony begins.  HUB AUDITORIUM.

Delegate leaders, please have your delegates move to the HUB auditorium to be seated for the Opening Ceremony

12:00-1:00  Opening Ceremony, HUB AUDITORIUM.

1:00-2:00  Lunch Break.

Lunch may be purchased in the lower level of the HUB:    $4.00-$6.00 will purchase a complete lunch.

2:00-5:00 COMMITTEE SESSIONS.  room schedule is attached

The action begins!  For delegates who have been preparing for months, weeks and days the committee sessions are where the fun begins.

4:30-5:30  ADVISOR RECEPTION.  HUB Room 108

A chance for advisors to share some pizza, before the delegates get to it.  And relax with each other at the conference.  New teachers will be invited to attend this reception who are interested in learning more about WASMUN.

5:30-7:00 DELEGATE SOCIAL, West Ballroom

Pagliacci Pizza and cultural entertainment by the University's Filipino and Polynesian Student Associations.

7:00-9:00 COMMITTEE SESSIONS.

9:00 CONFERENCE ADJOURNS FOR THE DAY.


SATURDAY, APRIL 6

8:30-8:45 Delegates arrive to the HUB. 

No registration or check in is required.  Delegates will report directly to their committee sessions in the same room as the previous day.

8:15-8:45 Morning Refreshments, HUB room 108.

Light breakfast refreshments and juice is available to all delegates in room 108.

9:00-1:00 COMMITTEE SESSIONS.  same room schedule as Friday.

1:00-2:00 Lunch Break. 

1:00-2:00 NGO Information booths.  HUB Room 108

Several leading international organizations will be presenting valuable information to delegates at this year's conference.  From Red Cross International to Study abroad programs, please make sure you stop by to view the information and ask questions of the NGO volunteers.

2:00-6:00 COMMITTEE SESSIONS

This is the time of day that things get heated and get going.  Committees will be voting on their resolutions and drawing up creative solutions to real world issues!

6:30-7:30 CLOSING CEREMONY, Kane Hall Room 120.

Kane Hall is located near the bus parking zone.  Delegates and advisors who are coming to the conference by school bus may wish to bring their belongings to the closing ceremony and depart from the ceremony towards their bus. 

8:00 We will stop at Dick's Drive-in and then take off for Vancouver.

Parking Information

Parking for busses is available for free on campus.  Parking for vans and vehicles will be arranged through passes.  All vehicles must stop at the Information gates at reference the WASMUN Conference.  More specific details will be emailed to you during the week of March 25.

Proper Attire & What to Bring

The Washington State Model United Nations is a simulation of the United Nations.  To respect the formality of the United Nations delegates are expected to dress in dress shirts, slacks, skirts and ties for men.  Or, formal attire representative of your nation.

Delegates should bring lunch for both Friday and Saturday or money to purchase lunch.  Lunch may be purchased for approximately $4.00-$6.00 per day.

Advisors should bring: a camera and some school work or a book (advisors will have down time).
