Topic 2: Civil War: The Conflict in Chechnya
Country: Libyan Arab Jamahiriya
Committee: Commission on Human Rights
School: Skyview High School
Delegate's Name: Devin Cusack
The civil war embroiling Russia and Chechnya is a grievous affair, and the number of dead on both sides is of great sadness. Throughout the course of the war, massive reports of alleged human rights violations have been voice, and concern over them is growing. The gross violation of human rights during this war is saddening, but not all together new. Throughout the world, past and present, nations and/or rival groups have been embroiled in civil wars. Wars that have routinely deprived people of their basic and fundamental human rights. It is this committee's objective to find an approach for the UN to end human right violations that occur during civil wars and a solution to said problem in Russia and Chechnya.
The Libyan Arab Jamahiriya will keep an open mind to the opinions of all member nations of this body. The state of human rights violations during civil wars is in a shocking state. It is the belief of Libya that an approach must be reached. As the body of the Commission on Human Right's and a body of the United Nations it is this committee's responsibility to find an approach that will meet the needs of today's present world situations. An approach that takes into account the sides of both parties involved, and respects the rights of both parties. While at the same time protecting the rights of individuals directly affected by the conflict. With this in mind, it is the hope of Libyan Arab Jamahiriya that a working approach is found, and that the egregious human rights violations discontinue. Most especially those pertaining to the Russia and Chechnya conflict.
In the hopes of reaching a fair and working approach the country of Libya hopes that all countries will keep an open mind. Through compromise and communication an approach is possible, one that will benefit the world population as a whole. In this body's pursuit of an approach to eliminate the violation of human rights during civil war and in the world in general a few things must be remembered. The rights of an individual, a group, and a nation must be recognized at all times during all processes taken on by the UN approach. In keeping with this, an approach that recognizes the rights of all will bring long lasting peace in the tumultuous regions of this earth.
