EXCERPTS FROM SAUDI CROWN PRINCE'S SPEECH

BEIRUT, Lebanon (AP) March 27, 2002--

Highlights of Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah's speech to the Arab League summit Wednesday.

"I suggest the Arab League proposes a collective Arab project to the Security Council, a project that is based on two basic issues: normal relations and the security of Israel in exchange for a full Israeli withdrawal from all occupied Arab lands, recognition of an independent Palestinian state with noble Jerusalem as its capital and the return of the refugees."

"Only under real peace could normal relations be attained between the peoples of the region so that development replaces war and destruction."

"I tell the Israeli people that if their government gives up the policy of force and suppression and accepts genuine peace, we will not hesitate in accepting the Israeli people's right to live in security with the rest of the people in the region."

"The peace process was based on a clear basis without a shadow of a doubt and that is land for peace. This is the basis the entire international community has approved and codified in Security Council resolutions 242 and 338 and was also adapted in the Madrid Conference in 1991, was assured by the decisions of the European Union and other regional organizations, and was further assured this month with the Security Council resolution 1397."
