Dear WASMUN Advisor,
As the Secretary-General for the 2004 WASMUN conference, I wanted to take this opportunity to give you a few updates on the Washington State Model United Nations (WASMUN) conference coming up this spring. This year the Office of International Affairs at the University of Washington will be overseeing the conference planning and implementation of the program, assuming these responsibilities from the World Affairs Council, which will remain involved in the conference as a participating partner.
The conference is scheduled for a Friday and Saturday, April 23rd and 24th, 2004 and will take place on the University of Washington campus. The conference is shaping up to be an exciting one. We will retain the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) Program created last year, as well as the WASMUN Post, the official journal of the WASMUN Conference. We will be focused on smaller committees and will also introduce a new committee to our structure, the International Court of Justice. For a listing of committees and assigned topics, please see the attached sheet.
You can register your students on our website, http://www.wasmun.org, beginning on October 6th, 2003. For the best country selection, we recommend that you register by our priority registration deadline of December 12th, although we will accept registrations as late as March 1st. The delegate fees have been set at $35 per delegate and $100 per school. An email with information on where and how the fees should be processed will be sent to you after you register. As always, registration fees should not exclude any interested person from registering. For information about scholarships please feel free to contact me at wasmun@u.washington.edu. To engage as many high schools as possible we are limiting the number of delegates per school to 32 members.
Currently, our delegate workshops, which are scheduled to take place on the University of Washington campus, are scheduled as follows:
· November 22nd: “Introduction to Model United Nations”
· January 24th: “Researching for WASMUN”
· February 21st: “Gaining an International Perspective”
· March 6th: Position Papers will be due
If you have any questions or concerns regarding registration, workshops or the conference in general, please feel free to contact me at (206) 616-0860 or email me at wasmun@u.washington.edu. Thank you for your consideration and we look forward to another successful conference.
Sincerely,
Matt Beebe
Secretary-General
