Romeo and Juliet: Your Way
Each team re-enacts Act II, Scenes 1 - 6 and Act III, Scene 1.

Divide your team up so that different members are responsible for writing each of the 7 scenes.
In the end you should have the complete Act II and Act III, Scene I written your way.

Students must paraphrase the meaning of Shakespeare's work using present-day language.
(Not every word needs to be paraphrased.)

RULES

THE WRITING

1. Every scene must be rewritten and typed out.
Each person must submit a scene or part of a scene written by him/her. The group leader will keep track of who is doing what.
2. No team member may write more than one scene
3. Write your name at the top of your individual paper (so you get credit).
4. Write the Scene and Sequence Number (i.e. scene 2 part 2)
5. Format the play like our Shakespeare book
Indicate who is speaking by writing the character's name in bold, the speaking in regular font.
You may add in blocking or other stage directions in italics.
6. The group leader will

a) keep track of which member is writing which part
b) sequence the play pages and submit with a paperclip (so I can photocopy each team member a script)
c) make sure each team member has a name at the top of their respective page
d) determine which team members have which parts
e) fill in two of these forms, submitting one to Dr. Questad

THE PRESENTATION

7. Time Limits: No team will be allowed more than 15 minutes of play presentation. When you hear the "buzzer" your play ends, whether you are done or not. Likewise, when your time begins, whether you are still preparing props, adjusting costumes or beginning dialogue, your time starts counting.
8. Each person on the team must participate "on stage" in a spoken role
9. Yes, you may use props and costumes.

JUDGES: To be announced

ACT II - ASSIGNMENTS

Who writes which scenes and who has which role? There are only 8 roles, so teams with more than 8 students must split roles so that each member participates. Using a prop or costume may help your audience understand who is who.
