The Pols

1. Congressman Brian Baird is our representative from the third congressional district of the US House of Representatives. He is a licensed clinical psychologist, and a former psychology professor and department head at Pacific Lutheran University. He has a tight schedule today so he will be leaving us a little early, but we appreciate his taking the time to join our panel this morning. Website

2. Senator Don Carlson was a teacher in the Vancouver School District for 31 years. He was Vancouver School District High School Teacher of the Year, 1981. He served eight years as a State Representative and is currently a state senator representing our 49th District. Website

3. Representative Bill Fromhold is experienced in finance, education, and politics. He is the former superintendent of Educational Service District 112, the former vice-president of municipal finance for SeaFirst Bank, the former president of the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, and is currently our representative to the Washington State Legislature for the 49th District. 4. Mayor Royce Pollard is the Mayor of Vancouver. He was also a former company Commander in Viet Nam, and former Commander of the US Army Barracks at Vancouver. Website



The Academics and Service Providers

5. Dr. Khalid Khan represents the Islamic Society of Southwest Washington. He is an associate dean at the University of Portland. Though he was born in India, his family emigrated to Pakistan where he finished high school and college. He came to America in 1969, obtained his PhD. He has worked at the University of Portland since 1979 and is a US citizen. Website

6. Dr. Grant Farr is a sociology professor at Portland State University, specializing in Middle Eastern and Asian culture, politics and society, Iran, Afghanistan, Central Asia, Pakistan and Islam, refugees, ethnicity, and revolution in Afghanistan and the Middle East. PSU Page.

7. Representative Jeff Merkley is the Executive Director of the Portland World Affairs Council, as well as a state representative for the Portland area to Oregon State legislature. Website

8. Captain Todd Iremonger is a Captain and Emergency Medical Technician for Clark County Fire District #6. He currently works at the Salmon Creek station and teaches courses on fire control, ventilation, incident command system and Tactics and Strategy.

9. Mr. Alan Parlee is a lawyer and political scientist who served in the Air Force in Europe as a member of NATO, studied American foreign policy and international relations and has practiced in areas of aviation law and risk management. After attending Skyview's first Model United Nations of the school year, it was his original idea to have this forum here today. Thank you Mr. Parlee.
