Irish myths are based on the settling of Ireland by successvie waves of Celtic peoples (Rosenberg 255) The Celts, representing the forces of light, were originally from Northern Europe. Historically, they are constantly battling invaders. The druids were priests who thought they could persude the gods who controlled all natural phenomena to grant their people fertility and prosperity by performing specific rites and sacrifices. The Celts worshipped the sun, the sustaining force of light, fertifility, and life. Halloween included human sacrifce (Rosenberg, Myth textbook).
