THE AFRICAN WAR AGAINST THE SLAVE TRADERS
Dear Tribes,
Ten large slave ships have arrived off the Ivory Coast. Africans are being rounded
up and taken aboard these boats for destinations unknown. Gather in your tribe
and decide your response. If you can save your tribe members you will earn a
celebration feast.
Your options: 1. Fight the The Great White Satan and his African traitors with
your poison-tipped spears - PINK
2. Hide from the slave traders in the jungle, caves or bush - YELLOW
3. Negotiate with the slave traders. Agree to help them get members from other
tribes with the agreement that no member of your tribe will be taken.- BLUE
PINK
Your poisoned-tipped spears are your pens/pencils. Each warrior must write up a minimum of 5 significant questions from Packet #5: African Philosophy and Santeria. No team member may pose the same question, so work as a team so none of 20 questions (5 for each of you, don’t worry if someone is absent) is the same. Include the answers you want. You may collaborate as much as possible.
One person from each tribe must type out the test. That person will be awarded extra credit based on format and directions. That same person will also provide the answer key. Both must be submitted for the tribe to wage war.
Your tribe only makes up the test and answer key. No member of your tribe will take the test.
You will win your battles if your test is well done.
It is due tomorrow – whether It is due tomorrow – whether student is here or not.

Your hiding places are in a word find. Your tribe must develop a list of the 20 most important terms in Packet #5: African Philosophy and Santeria and hide them in a Word Find. Each tribal member is responsible for one quadrant of the WF. Two copies must be provided: one must be a key, the other one to use.
In addition, each member must develop 3 multiple choice questions using 3 of the words used in the Word Find.
Assign one or two persons to type this up for extra credit. It is due tomorrow – whether typer is here or not.
You will be successful in hiding from the slave traders if you develop a good Word Find that has targeted the most important words in the packet, is neatly done and is challenging yet appropriate as well as a neatly done, challenging multiple choice vocabulary test.

You are the negotiators. You excel at communicating. Now you will try to save yourselves through your ability to persuade.
Each of your 4 tribal members must write out a significant short essay question based on your reading in Packet #5: African Philosophy and Santeria. Whatever question is developed must also be answered by the person who developed it. Create open-ended questions so that at least 2 paragraphs are required to answer it. Example from another packet: Retell the creation story of the Mande people and how it affects the values and traditions of its culture today.
One member of your tribe will type up the essay questions and submit them tomorrow with the answers attached.
You will be successful in negotiating with the slave traders if you develop a good essay test that has targeted the most important concepts in the packet, is neatly done and is challenging yet appropriate.
