Stratfor writes on Russia's call for an end to US and British air strikes against Iraqi targets. Putin also declared "the Russian leadership's firm intention to obtain a rapid political settlement to the Iraqi problem, including the lifting of sanctions against Iraq."

France and Russia are stepping up the pressure on Iraq sanctions and the Financial Times worries that the sanctions "will soon be meaningless". Russia has written to the Secretary General arguing a substantial loss of business from the embargo.
