SUBMITTED TO: Environmental
SUBMITTED BY: Canada
CONGRATULATING the efforts of many nations to preserve and protect a variety of wildlife and natural areas,
RECOGNIZING many animals critical to world, regional and local ecosytems have been diminished to dangerously low numbers,
AWARE of the fact that biodiversity is crucial not only to the food chain but medical and genetic research,
OBSERVING that waiting for an animal species to become "endangered" compromises its gene pool as well as related plant and animal resources,
DEEPLY CONCERNED about the harvesting of many animals for sport as opposed to food;
REQUESTS that all nations designate protected wildlife sanctuaries where no hunting may occur; and
RECOMMENDS that each nation be required set aside a minimum of 5% of its total area for this purpose.
