SUBJECT OF RESOLUTION: Tibetan Sovereignty

SUBMITTED TO: Committees 1, 2, and 4 and Security Council

SUBMITTED BY: United Kingdom

AWARE that China's claims to possession of Tibet are based on Mongol subjugation during the 13th Century, and

NOTING that the 1951 invasion of China upon Tibet was an illegal usurpation of sovereign Tibetan territory, and

RECALLING that the Dalai Llama, rightful ruler of Tibet, was forced by Chinese threats to flee for his life to India, and

AWARE that China has indeed interfered with the culture of Tibet,

1. SUPPORTS the request from the Dalai Llama that he be allowed to return to Tibet; and

2. DEMANDS that the Peoples' Republic of China be forced to withdraw its Peoples' Liberation Army from Tibet; and

2. REQUESTS the recognition of the Tibet territory as an independent, sovereign nation.
