EMPHASIZING that nearly eighty percent of the Earth's original forests have been degraded or destroyed,
DEEPLY CONCERNED that industrial logging is the single greatest threat to the remaining ancient forest,
FULLY ALARMED that every two seconds an area of ancient forest the size of a football field is logged, burned or flooded,
UNDERSTANDING that the United States has destroyed more than ninety-five percent of its ancient forest, and
AWARE that South American and North American forests are greatly in danger of extinction,
ENCOURAGES all nations to slow down and eventually terminate harvesting wood from the rain forests;
FURTHER ENCOURAGES all nations to employ reforestation as a viable means of wood production.
