SUBJECT OF RESOLUTION: Illicit Traffic in Small Arms

RECOGNIZING the continuing threat to the preservation of life by the continued illicit proliferation of small arms,

CONVINCED of the threat to sustainable peace, security, and development poised by the continued proliferation and use of small arms,

DEEPLY DISTURBED by the prior lack of concern and action by the international community in the area of formulating a set of laws, standards, and procedures in regards to assisting states in curbing illicit small arms trafficking and the collection of these arms,

AWARE OF the necessity of a internationally accepted set of laws, standards, and procedures,

1.CALLS UPON the creation of a universally accepted set of laws, standards, and procedures, no later than 1, January, 2005;

2.URGES the international community to implement the set of laws, standards, and procedures, as recommended by the conference, no later than 31, December, 2005;

3.CONGRATULATES all states in supporting the formation and implementation of a set of laws, standards, and procedures in regards to the prevention of continued illicit small arms trafficking.
