SUBJECT OF RESOLUTION: Death Penalty

SUBMITTED TO: Humanitarian, Disarmament and Special Political Committees 1, 2 and 4

SUBMITTED BY: Norway

RECOGNIZING that the death penalty is an inhumane and unnecessary form of criminal punishment, and

AFFIRMING that the death penalty is in violation of Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR),

1. RECOMMITS itself to the basic Human Rights standards outlined in the UDHR; and

2. IMPLORES all member states to uphold the principles stated within the UDHR; and

3. SUPPORTS the abolition of the death penalty in all countries; and

4. REQUESTS that the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights immediately commence a comprehensive review of the justice systems of all countries that currently employ capital punishment; and

5. FURTHER REQUESTS that the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights subsequently present a report of her findings to the General Assembly.
