AGAINST SANCTIONS
1. Campaign Against
Sanctions on Iraq
"The Campaign Against Sanctions on Iraq (CASI) aims to raise awareness
of the effects of sanctions on Iraq, and campaigns on humanitarian grounds
for the lifting of non-military sanctions. CASI does not support or have
ties to the government of Iraq." University of Cambridge, England
2. Sanctions
Against Iraq
This page provides information on the sanctions imposed on Iraq after
the Gulf War in 1991. Excellent site by Global Policy Forum. Lots of links
to more info.
3. End the Sanctions Now!
"They are the most brutal form of war because they punish an entire
population, targeting children, the future, most of all. Sanctions are
a weapon of mass destruction. From 1990, when sanctions were imposed on
Iraq until 1995, half a million children under the age of five died of
malnutrition and preventable diseases. Sanctions impose artificial famine.
A third of Iraq's surviving children today have stunted growth and nutritional
deficiencies that will deform their shortened lives."

Center
[March 6, 2002] "After a year of bitter infighting, the
Bush Administration remains sharply divided about Iraq. There is widespread
agreement that Saddam Hussein must be overthrown, but no agreement about
how to get it done." For sustainable change to take place, the Iraqi people
must choose their own political path. The best plan to encourage ‘regime
change’ in Iraq involves lifting the embargo and allowing Iraqi civil
society to recover from decades of war and 11 years of sanctions. This
would force political reforms that Saddam Hussein has successfully sidestepped
for years, using the crisis that has engulfed Iraq since 1991 and national
insecurity as justification for his continued tight rule. By removing
the crisis, the U.S. would hasten the removal of Saddam. That is the only
clear plan.
6. Economic
Sanctions Against Iraq
This paper considers the
legal aspects of military enforcement of economic sanctions in the absence
of hostilities.
7. The
Secret Behind the Sanctions
"How the U.S. Intentionally Destroyed Iraq's Water
Supply... The primary document, "Iraq Water Treatment Vulnerabilities,"
is dated January 22, 1991. It spells out how sanctions will prevent Iraq
from supplying clean water to its citizens." From
