GUARD INFORMATION

1. Intimidation

The mere presence of guards keeps delegates in line. You will be in your most appropriate casual clothes wearing a red arm band we provide. Please return the red band to the Head Guard at the end of your shift.

2. Entrance Security

No delegate may enter a room after a session has begun without a guard being recognized by the chair to allow the delegate in or out.

During Voting Block, no one is allowed in or out of a committee room, including coaches, pages, etc., unless we have an office emergency.

3. Standing by Delegate

The first consequence for dilatory behavior will be the request by the moderator for a guard to stand beside or in back of a delegate. The moderator will let you know when you may leave that position.

4. Escort to World Court

If a delegate continues to be out-of-order, despite the "standing," the guard may be requested to escort the delegate to Dr. Questad or directly to The World Court. Please be prepared to let Dr. Questad know what the problem is. Have the moderator's staff write it out for you if necessary.

The Head Guard will interrogate dilatory delegates and report summary to Dr. Questad, Head Justice of the World Court.

Dr. Questad will deal with students who have not complied with moderator's requests on the following issues:

not quiet, out-of-order, not respectful to moderator, CD player, eating or chewing gum, rude or inflammatory remarks to delegates or staff, etc.

The World Court must follow VSD Guidelines with delegates who have broken district policy

weapons (fake or real), fighting, swearing, etc.

5. Security of Wings and session rooms

Each guard will be assigned a station.

No student or delegate may travel in or out of a wing except for dinner.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

1. May I rotate my guard position?

Guards may share a post. For instance, perhaps one guard would like to work before dinner and another after.
It is your responsibility to work out the job sharing and report the arrangement to ____________, Skyview student in charge of guards.

2. Can I escort a dilatory delegate from the room by his arm?

Guards are not allowed to use physical contact, per VSD student handbook. Even though we are pretending we are in the UN Building and we are all part of the UN staff, in reality we are not and we must still follow district rules.

3. What if a delegate refuses to leave the room?

Remain by the delegate's side, though out of harm's way if the delegate is physically threatening you. Send your partner, the other guard for the room, to Dr. Questad for removal of the delegate to the Head Guard's room outside The World Court. The needed information will be recorded for the respective coach and school administrator. If needed, SHS Security will remain with this delegate.

4. What if a delegate uses physical force on any MUN participant, including me?

Get out of harm's way and instruct others to do the same.
One guard must immediately contact Dr. Questad via cell phone.
