GRADING SCALE PERCENTAGES TO GRADES |
GRADING POLICIES
|
Reading in Freshman English
Points are available each week for participating in Silent
Sustained Reading. All student book choices must be at or above instructional
reading level and approved by parent and teachers. Inappropriate books include
those below instructional level and/or inappropriate material.
Bonus Points/Extra Credit in Freshman English
Participation points are earned as bonus credit. Extra credit
options are listed on the Web Site and/or Assignment Log.
Technology Grading Weights
Your grade will be weighted as follows: Daily Work 80% ~ Professionalism
20%
Daily Work in Technology
This grade is based on the total number of daily assignments
completed. Assignments will be given daily. Some may be due at the end of class
or later. Students will be asked to save all work for possible submission at
a later date. Due dates for all work will be listed on the assignment log. Daily
work encompasses all class work, tests, quizzes, projects, and keyboarding technique.
Professionalism in Technology
This 20% of the grade is based on a students professional
attitude in class. There are ten professional points possible per week, two
per day. Students will receive the full amount of points each week as they follow
the rules and procedures for the classroom. (See attached rules and Procedures)
Deduction of professional point(s) occur when rules and procedures are not followed.
Performance Reports
Grade reports with assignments and their respective grades
will be distributed to students throughout the quarter in Technology. Dr. Questad's
grades will be posted under "Your Grade" on the English class web
site and accessed using student's last name and ID number. Periodically grade
reports will be sent home and required returned with parent signature in both
English and Technology.
Late Work
No late work is accepted except for students on a 174, 504
or IEP contract stipulating a late work acceptance policy.
Absences
While students are not graded for attendance, many grades
are related to in-class participation to show mastery of objective and are difficult
to make up. Students will be expected to make up all absences through accessing
Mrs. Schmidt's and Dr. Questad's web site when absent.
Make-up for Excused
Absences: A correctly completed Late Pass
required stapled to assignment
If a student is absent, please call the office with a
request for missing work if hand-outs were not available on Mrs. Schmidt's or
Dr. Questad's web sites. Assignment clarification will also be available via
e-mail request: bquestad@vansd.org or lschmidt@vansd.org. Work from absence
is due within 24 hours of return from a one-day absence, 48 from a 2-day, etc.
Technology and English Assignment Requirement
All assigned work must be word processed in size 12 font,
double-spaced, unless otherwise instructed. If a student does not have a computer
at home or has a problem with Skyview/home computer compatibility, an appointment
may be made with Dr. Questad or Mrs. Schmidt to work in the computer lab before
or after school.

PLAGIARISM POLICY |
"The easiest way to avoid accidental
plagiarism is to scrupulously cite
your sources, and to quote correctly" (Rael).
"Do you know what plagiarism is?
"Very few students fully understand its true definition. Plagiarism occurs
whenever you take a series of words, ideas, or even a single concept from
someone else's work and re-create it in your own term paper without citing
the original author as a source. Thus, even 'paraphrasing' is plagiarism if
you fail to show your readers the source of the words you are summarizing.
'Re-wording' what somebody else has written is plagiarism if you do not give
them credit for their ideas. Plagiarism, therefore, is not only the copying
of words, it is the copying of ideas that do not belong to you without attributing
them to their creator" ("Learn to Cite Sources").
* The format for a parenthetical reference is given directly after Rael's quote above.
Special Note: Items from Microsoft Clip Art do not have to be cited, though it is not incorrect to do so.
