THE GODS
MUST
BE CRAZY

TOPIC AND THESIS
Pick one of the
following topics
and develop your thesis

1. Patron god or goddess. Imagine you are advising members of an ancient Greek household which Greek god or goddess they should choose to worship in their family shrine. Support your advice on which god or goddess would be best with researched information.

2. You are the prosecuting attorney for Ancient Greece. You have had enough of the destruction and terror perpetrated by the Greek gods. Pick one Greek god to prosecute for the death penalty. You may team up with someone who is defending your god/goddess in #3, working as each other's mentors and editors. Assume this deity will lose immortality and be subject to death at the hands of the state.

Include the following in your arguments

* Clarification on why this deity should receive the death penalty
* Reasons why this deity should be the first to receive the death penalty, warning other deities mortals will hold them accountable

3. You are a Greek attorney for the defense. Your client, the god or goddess of your choice, has been accused of crimes so severe that the death penalty is being demanded. Defend your client. You may team up with someone who is prosecuting your "client" in #2, working as each other's mentors and editors.

Include in your arguments

* Justification why the actions of your deity should be not be punished (but in some cases should be rewarded instead!)
* Actions other deities have committed but not been punished for
* Substantiate your deity's positive history and contributions

4. You are on the Humanitarian Nobel Prize Committee to decide which deity deserves the award for the most significant contribution(s) to the betterment of humanity.

From your research on ancient Greek deities, choose the god or goddess who you think contributed the most towards the betterment of humanity. Argue your point in your paper as if you strongly believed your choice was correct. Think of your audience as other distinguished members of the Nobel Committee. In your argument compare and contrast your nominee to other possible Nobel Prize nominees. Anticipate other committee member nominations by possibly interviewing your colleagues to find out whom they are nominating.
