VOYAGE PICTURE: An Odyssey to Self-Discovery and Goal-Making
Purpose: To understand and personalize the metaphors and analogies of temptations and obstacles presented in The Odyssey.

Using blank paper and colored pencils (and/or any other artistic utensils), draw/label the following.

1. Your name and period number on the back of your paper.

2. A vehicle to transport you on your journey
Perhaps a boat like Odysseus's, or a train, car, etc.

3. Symbol(s) for 3 obstacles with 3 different obstacles labeled
My obstacle was a large boulder in the sea, reminiscent of the sharp rocks off Ship Trap Island.
At your age I would have listed a poor memory, procrastination and stupidity as obstacles I had to overcome as a freshman on this rock.

4. Symbol(s) for temptation with 3 temptations pictured and labeled.
I drew a sea serpent rising out of the water with a phone, boy's profile, and TV sticking out of it with the words: talking, boys and TV

5. A symbol of your goal with 3 goals for graduation depicted in the forward path of your vehicle
I drew a pot of gold up ahead of my boat. Each coin was a goal I hoped to reach when I graduated from high school.
My goals included a 3.5, membership in NHS, and acceptance at a good college so on 3 different coins I wrote 3.5, NHS and Whitman. Make sure your vehicle is traveling towards your goal

6. A depiction of how you will power your vehicle to overcome your temptations and obstacles and reach your goals.
I drew 3 sails on my boat to help me get to my goal. One sail had church and family written on it. Another sail had self-discipline written on it and another sail had healthy lifestyle with an apple on it.
