Skyview High School P. E. Policies

Our staff believes strongly in the importance of regular physical exercise and lifelong fitness.  Our goal is to develop a positive attitude toward physical fitness and to teach useable skills that will carry over into post-secondary life.  We encourage students to develop a habit of lifelong exercise and enjoy the benefits that fitness brings with it.

Our basic physical education classes stress the development of fundamental skills and basic game strategies along with daily fitness activities.

Due to the possible mobility of each student from teacher to teacher, all students are graded on the same point system.  Grades are based on effort through daily participation, fitness activities, written exams, skill tests, and attendance.  Students are graded at the end of every 4 ½ week period.

Grading

Four points will be awarded each day for displayed effort, cooperation and sportsmanship.  Dressing down for P.E. is required, and factored into each student’s grade.  Each written/skills test is also a part of the student’s unit grade.  Every student will be given the opportunity to retake any failed tests.

Make-up Work

Students with excused absences or excused non-suits may make up points lost with a 60 minute dress down activity related to current class activity.  Students need to make arrangements with their teacher for make-up days.  Make-ups need to be completed before the end of each quarter, unless previously arranged.  Three make-ups can be completed and signed by your parents or an outside coach.  Five make-ups can be completed and signed by your Skyview coach.  Make-ups will be given the full 4 points.  PE Make-up Forms are available here or in the P.E. offices.  Forms must be returned before the end of each quarter.

Non-suits

Students are required to dress down for all P.E. classes.  Non-suits are recorded as a “0” and can not be made-up.  If the problem cannot be resolved, the parents will be notified.  Students may Not wear the same clothes to class that they wear to school and must change in the locker room.

Attendance

Attendance is mandatory.  Four points will be deducted for each absence.  Only excused absences can be made-up (please see make-up work).  Students will lose 1 point a day for every tardy.  Roll call will be taken five minutes after the class has begun.  Be in your assigned area prior to the beginning of roll call.  Truancies can not be made-up.

P.E. Uniform

Our uniforms will consist of solid navy blue athletic shorts or sweats, and any solid navy blue, grey, or white t-shirt that is plain or has a Skyview emblem.  Shirts and shorts that you currently have at home are fine.  P.E. uniforms are available in the Skyview Market Place.  All logos or advertisements of any kind are not allowed.  Half-shirts, tank tops, or see-through material are also forbidden. For safety purposes, shoes that cover the entire foot and ankle are needed.  All shoes must have laces or Velcro.  Sandals or boots are not allowed.  We can’t permit students to use black soles that mark the gym floor.

Dance Class: Must wear black pants, white or black shirt, and dance shoes.

Locker Room

Each student will be assigned a small locker that is not to be shared.  Any damage to your assigned locker is your responsibility.  Report any damage to your teacher immediately.  Do not share your combination with any other student.

All lost or stolen locks are the responsibility of the student who was issued the lock.  You may not use a personal lock on your locker.  If you lose your lock, you must pay a $5 fee to the business office before another lock can be issued.  Large lockers are to be used for locking up your bags, coats, and any other personal items you bring into the locker room during your period only.  Do not leave your lock on any big locker after your class.  Before you leave the locker room put all your belongings back into your small assigned locker.

Locker room security is always an issue.  Always lock your valuables.  Double-check your lock to make sure it is locked before you leave for class.  Do not leave backpacks out.  Lock them in a large locker.

Lost and Found

All lost and found items will be kept in the physical education office.  Lock all valuables in your locker at all times.  If you’ve lost something, notify your teacher immediately.  All items unclaimed at the end of each quarter will be donated to a worthy cause.
